UAF School of Education to host Fairbanks Fly-In

A cohort of Alaska Indigenous Teacher Corps students from rural communities and Alaska Indigenous Teacher Network alumni are coming to Fairbanks for the Fairbanks Fly-In, Feb. 22-24. The group will have time to explore UAF Troth Yeddha' Campus, meet peers in their programs, connect with Tanana Chiefs Conference partners for dinner at the Effie Kokrine Charter School, participate in an art workshop led by Nita Yurrliq Rearden, and attend the 50th anniversary of the Festival of Native Arts.

On Friday, Feb. 23 from 4-5 p.m., Dr. Olga Skinner will be hosting a panel discussion with several Alaska Indigenous Teacher Network alumni teaching in the Bering Strait and Lower Kuskokwim School Districts. All are welcome to join and learn more about education and teaching in rural Alaska.

Following the panel, from 5-6 p.m., there will be an open house of the UAF School of Education. Classroom and office spaces were renovated in 2021 to affirm the importance of teaching as a valued profession in the state of Alaska.
