Healthy Living lecture series begins June 6

The Â鶹ąŮÍř Fairbanks will host the Healthy Living lecture series starting on June 6. The free series offers a variety of presentations by Alaska medical specialists and experts.

The public lectures are presented by UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning and are open to the public. Lectures will be at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ Campus. Parking on campus is free after 5 p.m.

The presentations will be hosted by Michael Powers, former chief executive officer at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. They will be livestreamed and available as recordings online.

Lectures in the Healthy Living series include:

  • June 6 – “Improving Alaskans’ Health: Statewide and In Your Neighborhood,” Dr. Anne Zink, Alaska chief medical officer, and Dr. Mishelle Nace, pediatrics specialist
  • June 13 – “Making Sense of Hearing Health in 2023,” Lily Hughes, audiologist
  • June 20 – “Forgetfulness: When Should I Be Concerned?” Scott Luper, naturopathic physician
  • June 27 – “A Systematic Approach to Considering a Cancer Diagnosis in 2023,” Dr. Andrew Cox, oncologist
  • July 11 – “The Art of Simulating Health Disasters and the Science of Response,” Lori Gilbertoni, registered nurse
  • July 18 – “Aging in Place: A Plan for the Future You in Fairbanks,” Beth Grey, Aging and Disability Resource Center project manager, Fairbanks Senior Center
  • July 25 – “Senior Living Choices in Fairbanks as We Age,” Vickie Wilson, former director of the Division of Alaska Pioneer Homes
  • Aug. 1 – “Determining Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease,” Dr. Romel Wrenn, cardiologist
  • Aug. 8 – “Lifestyle as Medicine,” Dr. Sally Mangum, internist
  • Aug. 15 – “A Whirlwind of Allergy: From Pollen to Pot Roast,” Dr. Anthony Bonitatibus, allergist
