The UAF Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is tasked with providing oversight and guidance for all campus needs related to research and teaching involving the use of recombinant or synthetic DNA/RNA, artificial gene transfer, infectious agents, biologically derived toxins, and other biohazards. The IBC is responsible for ensuring that research involving these agents is conducted in a manner that protects the researchers, laboratory workers, human research subjects, the public and the environment. The IBC reviews teaching and research projects to provide the safe conduct of work involving hazardous biological materials and to ensure compliance with applicable external regulations and University policies. The committee approves procedures for procurement, use, storage, transportation and disposal of biohazardous material. |
