Welcome the the Center for Cross-Cultural Studies
Transforming academia through Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Worldviews.
Who we are
Vision Statement: We as a department seek transformation of academia through Indigenous knowledge and practices according to the multiplicity of Indigenous worldviews. We envision this as a journey of transformation, stemming from the learning of and living by Indigenous wisdom. We seek to accomplish this through individual growth, knowledge, and improving well-being through decolonization and cross-cultural understanding.
Mission Statement: Our mission at the Center for Cross-Cultural Studies is to serve communities through the graduate education of individuals seeking to apply their education to the improvement of well-being and self-determination in communities. A journey through our M.A. or Ph.D. programs will help students to recognize multiple sources of knowledge and wisdom, as carried and communicated through traditional practices. Among our goals is to provide information and other support to school districts, tribal organizations, communities, and state and federal agencies serving Indigenous and rural people.
Our Indigenous Studies Ph.D. program is the highest Indigenous Studies degree granting program in the state. Combined with our M.A. program, we work hard to increase the recognition of Indigenous scholarship across a range of academic disciplines to best serve our students. We serve as a forum for the examination of cross-cultural and Indigenous education and community development issues across the state and around the world.
