Dr. Richard Scott Carr

Professor of English, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Richard Scott Carr has served the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1995 to 2023; and

WHEREAS Dr. Carr has been recognized as an outstanding teacher on multiple occasions and has contributed to an unusually broad range of courses; and he has served as thesis director to more than 15 graduate students and on the thesis committees of more than 70; and

WHEREAS Dr. Carr’s research specialty has been Australasian literature, about which he has published and presented dozens of papers; and he has served as reviews editor for Antipodes, a journal of Australian literature; and

WHEREAS Dr. Carr has served as director of the UAF Writing Center since 1997, a centerpiece role in his professional life; and Dr. Carr served as chair of the English Department for 10 years, providing leadership with his calm, reliable demeanor and exceptional skills in mediation; and he has volunteered extensively for university initiatives and committees, as well as for numerous events and activities in the Fairbanks and Alaska communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Richard Scott Carr for his extensive contributions to the state of Alaska and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Carr and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Richard Scott Carr as professor of English, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Richard Scott Carr, and conveyed to Dr. Carr on this sixth day of May, 2023.
