Ms. Julie Riley
Professor of Horticulture, Emeritus
WHEREAS Ms. Julie Riley served the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and public service from 1984 to 2020; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Riley is known for her engaging presentations, use of humor, generosity and openness; and as an agent with the Cooperative Extension Service, she developed, taught for and managed volunteers in the master gardener programs, first in Anchorage and then in Fairbanks; and she helped develop an advanced master gardener curriculum and program; and
WHEREAS Ms. Riley worked diligently to serve her communities through support of commercial endeavors, organization of food security coalitions and consultations with individuals experiencing plant or pest problems; and she is known across Alaska for her support of home gardening, local food production and agricultural business development; and her efforts have been vital to the Alaska peony industry and the establishment of Alaska as a world player in the international cut flower market; and
WHEREAS Ms. Riley received numerous awards from local, state and national organizations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Ms. Julie Riley for her extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Ms. Riley and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Ms. Julie Riley as Professor of Horticulture, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Ms. Julie Riley, and conveyed to Ms. Riley on this first day of May, 2021.
