Dr. Terrence Cole
Professor of History and Northern Studies, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. Terrence M. Cole served the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1988 to 2018; and
WHEREAS Dr. Cole taught and inspired thousands of students, bringing an astounding breadth and depth of knowledge to the classroom and spurring his students to question their assumptions; and
WHEREAS Dr. Cole was an esteemed faculty member in the Northern Studies graduate program for two decades and guided twenty master’s students to completion of that program; and
WHEREAS Dr. Cole’s research accomplishments, including five books and dozens of articles, establish him as an eminent scholar of Alaska and polar history; and
WHEREAS Dr. Cole has excelled in public service, co-directing the National History Day Program that has engaged schoolchildren in research historical topics and serving on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Library Commission, among other valuable efforts; and
WHEREAS Dr. Cole has earned numerous awards, including Alaska Historian of the Year, the Emil Usibelli Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Edith R. Bullock Award for Excellence, and the Governor’s Award for the Humanities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Terrence M. Cole for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Cole and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Terrence M. Cole as Professor of History and Northern Studies, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Terrence M. Cole, and conveyed to Dr. Cole on this 4th day of May, 2018.
