Mandatory employee Title IX training notice
MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 15, 2017
TO: UAF campus community
FROM: Daniel M. White, Chancellor
SUBJECT: Mandatory employee Title IX training notice
Each of us is responsible for helping make UAF a safe place to live, learn and work. Title IX training is an important part of that work.
In order to comply with requirements of the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, all “responsible employees” at UAF must have Title IX training and update their Title IX training each fiscal year. Responsible employees include all staff and faculty and all Residence Life student employees. UAF’s training policy was updated June 30, 2017, to reflect this new requirement and affirm UAF’s commitment to safety on campus.
Since this is the first year of this OCR requirement, we have until Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, for all responsible employees to have completed Title IX training. You'll find detailed directions on how to complete the training by going to www.uaf.edu/equity/training.php and clicking on “For employees.” If you have questions about the training, please contact the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity at 907-474-7300 or uaf-TIX@alaska.edu.
As you may be aware, students are also required to take Title IX training. This year, a registration hold will be placed on new students who have not completed their training by Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.
Requirements such as this training and the publication of our nondiscrimination statement (www.uaf.edu/chancellor/communications/memos/august-4-2017.php) stem from a Voluntary Resolution Agreement that the 鶹 entered into with the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights. This agreement results from OCR’s review of the university’s handling of sexual assault and sexual harassment incidents affecting students and employees on UA campuses. Since February 2017, UAF, UAS and UAA have been working diligently to complete tasks as detailed in the VRA. To date, UA has met the deadlines in the VRA. For updated information on the VRA and actions UA has taken, please go to .
Memo updated Sept. 29, 2017 and May 13, 2019, to reflect revised website and contact information.
