GAAP wins first place in the Armanino LLP case competition
CBSM offers students a variety of hands-on learning opportunities from traveling to national conferences to student employment and internships. Last spring, four members from the student organization, Great Alaskan Accounting People (GAAP) traveled to Seattle for a case competition hosted by Armanino LLP, a top 20 CPA and consulting firm.
The case competition took place at Seattle University with six other west coast colleges. Each team pieced together a presentation based on a business case from the real world. Through critical thinking, time-management and strong teamwork, the GAAP team took first place for the first time in its history.
“The Armanino LLP case competition helped me to better understand what accounting and consulting in the real world is like,” says Jasen Chausse, GAAP member and MBA candidate. “The premise of the competition was very realistic as they told us what their company was looking to do, intentionally leaving out information so that we could use our expertise to clarify relevant information. After the competition, I definitely had a better degree of confidence in my accounting and teamwork abilities. Finding out we got first place was such an incredible feeling that all our hard work paid off.”
