BIO

Ben Loeffler is a research professional with ACEP. He leads its hydrokinetic research group and is a co-director for the Pacific Marine Energy Center (PMEC). His primary efforts include engineering and project management for research projects and operations at the Tanana River Test Site in Nenana.

He comes to ACEP as a registered, professional mechanical engineer in the state of Alaska. His prior experience includes being an energy management engineer for the Fairbanks North Star Borough, research assistant at ACEP, and research engineer at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Extreme Tribology Lab and at DHX Electric Machines.

Loeffler received his B.S. and M.S. from the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a master’s thesis that developed an analytical model and numerical optimization of a single-phase thermosiphon for passive thermal management of power electronics.

Loeffler came to Alaska in 2015 to coach rowing, a pastime he picked up as an undergrad at Georgia Tech. He enjoys the outdoors, including hiking and cross-country skiing.
