BIO

Diane Hirshberg is director and professor of education policy at the UAA Institute of Social and Economic Â鶹¹ÙÍø and an affiliate researcher at ACEP. She also serves as the vice-president academic for the University of the Arctic and sits on the Board of the Arctic Â鶹¹ÙÍø Consortium of the U.S.

Hirshberg teaches in the Master of Public Policy program in the UAA College of Business and Public Policy. Her research includes education policy analysis, Indigenous education, circumpolar education issues, and the role of education in sustainable development in the Arctic. Her current work focuses on the role of education and knowledge sharing in self-determined sustainable development in remote villages and in supporting community efforts to build energy security and sustainability in northern and Indigenous communities.

Hirshberg has a Ph.D. in education from University of California, Los Angeles, a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University, and two bachelor’s degrees from University of California, Berkeley.
